Sandy Crystals on the Surface of a Spa

If you already have sandy crystals in your spa, follow the instructions below titled How to Get Rid of Sandy Crystals in Your Spa.

Sandy crystals appear on the sides of your spa when the pH is too high (over 8). After solving the problems of thousands of customers, we’ve discovered three main causes of high pH, how to control it and how to keep your spa smooth and free from sandy crystals.

  1. Quality of your water supply. High mineral content in your water supply is usually the culprit but there can be other factors as well. The best solution to PREVENT sandy crystals from forming in your spa is to adjust the pH to 7.2-7.6 when you refill your spa as stated in the EVERY TIME YOU FILL YOUR SPA WITH NEW WATER instructions on the cover page of the Carefree instruction booklet.
  2. Old chemicals in the plumbing leaching into the water. Do a Citri-Clean purge and follow the EVERY TIME YOU FILL YOUR SPA WITH NEW WATER instructions on the cover page of the Carefree instruction booklet.
  3. Going too long on a bottle of Naturel Spa. Issues will occur if you are going too long on bottles of product. Be sure to follow the recommended schedule to keep the sandy crystals from appearing.

  2. Repeat step 2 daily until the sides of the spa are smooth.
